IRPC moves ahead to lead the region in investment in large-scale production of spunbond PP, non-phthalate pipe-graded PPR and heavy-duty PE 100-RC
IRPC is spending over THB 589 million to advance production of three smart materials featuring 190,000 tons per annum of spunbond PP, the largest production capacity in Thailand, in response to global healthcare trends. Also leading the region, the investment additionally covers 80,000 tons per annum of non-phthalate PPR or PP random copolymer pipe grade used in production of heavy-duty and non-toxic cold and hot water pipes as well as 40,000 tons per annum of HDPE 100-RC used in the production of large industrial pipes that are highly durable, lasting 100 years and more. The products will be ready for launch in the market within 2024.
"IRPC is investing over THB 589 million through capital expenditure to expand its production capacity of specialty products in three projects," explained Mr. Kris Imsang, President and Chief Executive Officer of IRPC Public Company Limited (IRPC).
The projects comprise:
The three projects will serve both the Thai and overseas markets.
Production capacity expansion of spunbond PP is the largest in Thailand. Non-phthalate production technology is utilised to ensure the highest safety for consumers. By utilising alternative energy from a Floating Solar Farm, the production process also enables the reduction of carbon emissions up to 2,665 tons per annum. Execution is scheduled for completion in Q2 2024. Some of the output will be allocated for Innopolymed Co.,Ltd. non-woven fabric factory for development of medical products and quality healthcare products including medical masks, N95 masks, gowns, PPE gowns, baby and adult diapers and filters.
The household and industrial hot and cold water pipes are more resistant to scratches, pressure and chemicals than ordinary water pipes. Non-phthalate production technology makes them safer as well. The first in Southeast Asia project is expected to be completed in Q3 2024.
The HDPE 100-RC project enables production of large industrial pipes highly resistant to impacts and scratches. The pipes can last over a century. These qualities reduce construction costs from utilising soil drilling machines and laying underground pipes without excavating soil surfaces, thereby conserving natural resources and the environment. At the same time, construction duration can be reduced. The project is expected to be completed in Q1 2024.
"IRPC's investment in smart material products is in congruence with the global megatrends of health and wellness which will play a critical role in how we live in the new age," stresses Mr. Imsang. "The investment will also support national strategy, particularly in relation to the medical sector which is one of the new S-curve areas under the Thailand Industry 4.0 strategy. This will support expansion of urban society and infrastructure investment both locally and abroad. It is also in congruence with IRPC's vision to further develop innovation that create value for society and the environment under its vision ‘To Shape Material and Energy Solutions in Harmony with Life’."
